A mountain can be both a peak of accomplishment or a point to fall from. Mountains symbolise eternal return, survival and demise - the climb, the exertion of labour, leading to a fall. Fluxing mountainous landscapes also haunt the stock market charting financial losses and gains or visually marking the start of a recession across mainstream media.

Practice Mountain is a creative critical text exploring how recessions, and precarity, shape how we survive creatively in the contemporary. It explores the experience of a recession as a patriarchal system, an absent father and how we exist amongst the neoliberalisation of everything, including family life.

Practice mountain is the expansion of a text formed as part of Emma Edmondson's show A mountain, foiled. A game, lost. at Arcade Campfa in Cardiff, 2019.

Practice mountain is a digitally printed bound A5 book with 40 pages. It is an unlimited edition.

Emma Edmondson is an exhibiting artist in Precarious straits ~ survival on Southend’s new coast, Southend-under-Sea’, a collaborative project from TOMA (The Other MA) and TOW (The Old Waterworks) and is a Creative Estuary co-commission with additional funding from Arts Council England.
